The situation worsened in the evening, especially in south Delhi areas, where both motorists and pedestrians waded through knee-deep water to reach their destinations.

Due to waterlogging, traffic was badly hit at Palam Flyover, under Paras Flyover, Dhaula Kuan underpass and near Mahipalpur chowk on NH-8. Movement of vehicles was also affected at Bawana, Mayapuri Flyover, Delhi Gate, Ashram Chowk, Dwarka Underpass and Moolchand, among other areas, traffic police sources said.

Meanwhile, several low-lying areas across the city were inundated, with the MCD control room receiving more than three dozen complaints of waterlogging, most of them from Najafgarh and Sadar Paharganj zones.

NCR fares no better
In Gurgaon, MG Road and its arterial roads saw huge traffic jams in the evening. The heavy downpour claimed the life of a schoolgirl in Bhondsi. There were reports of waterlogging from Sushant Lok.

Noida saw traffic jams at NH-24, near Model Town and in Sector 63. Till late evening, there was a kilometre-long queue of vehicles here.
