Sukhbeer Yadav, a second-year MBBS student, Vikas Kaushik, a final-year student of ayurveda, and Pawan Kumar, a second-year BSc student, were found to have impersonated candidates in the All India Pre-Veterinary Test in May 2011, Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south), said.

“The arrests followed investigations into a complaint filed by the Veterinary Council of India after it was found that at least 57 candidates who had cleared the exam were suspected to have used the services of others to take the entrance exam,” DCP Sharma said.

According to police, the alleged impersonation had come to light during counselling sessions held last August, for which the council had employed the services of a forensic expert.

The council had first approached the CBI which advised it to ask the police to get a criminal case registered against suspected candidates who had appeared for the test held on

May 14 last year.

“The identities of the candidates were verified on the basis of their handwritings, signatures and thumb impressions collected during the examination on the answer and attendance sheets with specimens during the counselling sessions. This led to the first arrest in the case, that of Bhiwani-resident Pawan,” DCP Sharma said.

The police claimed that Pawan, who initially attempted to mislead them, broke down during interrogation and confessed to his involvement and led investigators to Kaushik and Yadav.
