'UP to throw hung assembly with SP leading race'

According to an opinion poll conducted by TV news channel Star News-Nielsen, the upcoming UP elections is expected to throw a hung assembly with Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party emerging as the largest party.

The upcoming UP elections is expected to throw a hung assembly with Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party emerging as the largest party, says an opinion poll conducted by Star News.

According to the Star News-Nielsen opinion poll, Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party is expected to stand in the second place with 120 seats and Congress-RLD alliance taking the third place with Congress winning 68 seats and the RLD bagging 10 seats. The poll gives 65 seats to the Bhartiya Janata Party.

The poll sees a close fight in western Uttar Pradesh with BSP winning 40 seats, SP (42), BJP (40), Congress (8) and RLD 10 seats.

In Awadh region too, SP is expected to lead with 24 seats. Congress (22), BSP (10) and the BJP (7) are expected to win the second, third and fourth place respectively.

In Bundelkhand, the SP is expected to lead with nine seats. BSP and Congress would win five seats each and the BJP will not record a win, according to the poll.
