UPA rallies around Kurien

Lending solid support to Rajya Sabha deputy chairman PJ Kurien, the UPA government will give a suo moto statement in Rajya Sabha on Friday narrating how various courts have given him clean chit on the Suryanelli rape case.

Parliamentary affairs minister Kamal Nath will issue the statement even as the CPI(M) kept its pressure up on the issue. In the meeting of party leaders in Rajya Sabha, the Left leaders reportedly spoke extensively why Kurien should step down.

During the past two days, Kamal Nath ruled out any possibility of removing Kurien from the RS post arguing that it is a political allegation by the CPI(M).
