DDA's engineers had claimed in a letter shot to the Ministry of Urban Development, the Lieutenant Governor and the DDA chairman, that they cannot complete the flats before the Games.

DDA vice-chairman Ashok Kumar Nigam said the works carried out by contractors and the authority's engineers are only to inspect and monitor the project.

"The Games OC has only asked for 1,275 flats for technical staff, which will be ready,” Nigam said. "There are 40 towers in the complex, out of which, 20 are meant for Games staff and will be cordoned off for security reasons,” he said.

He said while flats meant for the technical staff will be definitely ready, DDA will try its best to complete finishing work on the rest of the flats, which are meant to house tourists.

DDA claimed that 81 per cent of construction work on the flats was over in July itself and only finishing work remains.
