VIPs turned away, told to follow rules

The Delhi Police on Sunday did not even spare these VIPs who came to watch the gala opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. Many Members of Parliament were turned away and asked to follow the proper procedures set by the Organising Committee and the Delhi Police.

Some of the VIPs who had a difficult time included Delhi’s education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, Shahnawaz Hussain and senior BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

There was apparently a long queue in front of their bus, which forced the leaders to walk to the gates but security personnel at the gates told them to go back to their bus.

Rudy later said, “I had just gone to see the arrangements made for the Games.”

Any vehicle that did not have security stickers wasn’t allowed to enter the stadium periphery.
Lovely’s bus was turned away from the venue, as it did not have the proper security sticker. The minister was accompanied by his family and other VIPs to the venue.

The Personal Security Officers and drivers of the Prince of Brunei and Prince of Jordan were also stopped.
