Was not given chance to consult lawyer: Gupta
The senior executive of the Hero entity, Sanjay Gupta, has alleged that his arrest by the Gurgaon police was illegal as it was done without issuing him a notice. Sanjeev K Ahuja reports.
The senior executive of the Hero entity, Sanjay Gupta, has alleged that his arrest by the Gurgaon police was illegal as it was done without issuing him a notice. The police had summoned Gupta to join the investigation at the police station. He was later sent to five-day police custody.

According to Gupta, he was not given a chance to consult his advocate. His lawyer came to know about his arrest on Monday, when he was produced before the court. Gupta, while being produced in the court of chief judicial magistrate DN Bhardwaj, said he was not allowed to call his lawyer.
“I had been visiting the police station since December 31 on a regular basis and participating in the investigation. All of a sudden on Sunday, police officials told me not to leave police station and put me under arrest. I was not allowed to even make a call to my lawyer and remained in the lock up for the entire night,” he said.
Gupta pleaded the court to allow him to meet his lawyer daily in the police station during remand period of five days. CL Kakkar, the lawyer for Gupta, also said, “The name of Sanjay Gupta does not appear in the first information report and he cannot be arrested on the basis of the confession statement of the prime accused, Puri, only.”
On the other hand, the DLF City police station house officer, said there was no need of issuing any notice as the investigating team had collected enough evidence to arrest him. “We have gathered information about his two accounts in which about R20 crore had been transferred as profit money or commission in the last six months,” he added.
Meanwhile, the chief judicial magistrate on Monday turned down the petition of Puri’s lawyer to allow him to meet his client in private.
