Accepting the results of West Bengal civic polls as a setback, the CPI today said the Left Front should introspect and make a proper assessment of the situation ahead of the next year's assembly elections. Party National Secretary D Raja said the Left Front, of which CPI is a part, should "introspect" and take all necessary steps and decide the way forward for facing the Assembly elections in 2011.

Party National Secretary D Raja said the Left Front, of which CPI is a part, should "introspect" and take all necessary steps and decide the way forward for facing the Assembly elections in 2011.

"It is a setback. These are elections to local bodies. There can be a combination of various factors. At the time of assembly elections, there will be larger political issues," he said.

"The Left Front should take stock of the situation and introspect and decide the way forward," he said.

Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress has inflicted a crushing blow to the ruling Left front in the civic polls, capturing the prestigious Kolkata Municipal Corporation and bagging 36 other municipalities.
