The woman has filed a complaint before a city court, which has put her application for consideration on May 5.

Mamta Gupta, a resident of Rampura in New Delhi, alleged that her father-in-law Dinesh Gupta had given defamatory statements to various dailies and TV channels raising allegation of murder of her husband against her.

She demanded registration of case invoking Sections 499 (defamation), 500 (punishment for defamation) and 509 (act intended to insult modesty of woman) of IPC against Gupta and TV channels and initiation of proceedings against her father-in-law under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.

Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Bansal last week put her complaint for consideration on May 5.

The woman, a mother of two, claimed that her husband, Manoj Gupta had died after falling from a moving train near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on September 20, 2000.

Her father-in-law by raising allegations of murder against her in TV channels and newspapers had harmed her reputation and dignity in the society besides that of her minor children, the woman alleged.
