Woman can’t buy land on son’s behalf

A city court stopped a woman from buying property on behalf of her underage son with the money she got from government acquisition of a piece of land in his name in a village here.

The court denied her permission on the ground that he might need the money later for his education.

"What is the guarantee that purchase of an immovable property is bound to certainly benefit the minor?" said district judge AK Chawla, while dismissing Mundka village resident Saroj Devi's plea to let her buy land in the city with the money that was given to her minor son Samant by Delhi government after acquisition of the land in his name. The compensation money, a sum of R25.89 lakh was lying in fixed deposit in Samant's name.
