Woman charged with illegally confining mother

A city court on Wednesday ordered registration of a criminal case against a woman for keeping her mother under illegal confinement. The court said the accused had colluded with police officials to keep her mother at home. Sumit Saxena reports.

A city court on Wednesday ordered registration of a criminal case against a woman for keeping her mother under illegal confinement. The court said the accused had colluded with police officials to keep her mother at home. The police had also furnished incorrect report to the magistrate based on the accused's complaint.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lokesh Kumar Sharma said, "Without any investigations you (police officials) refer the old woman-who is almost handicapped, as an element disturbing public tranquillity." The judge ordered the local police station to register an FIR within three days without getting influenced by daughter's complaint.

Sheila (58) (name changed), a Shahadara resident had filed a petition in court stating that her daughter Meera (name changed), 35, had illegally confined her in the house. "Meera has been disowned by Sheila and now wants to grab her property," said Ajeet Bhadauria counsel for Sheila.

The court ordered East Delhi DCP to take action against the errant the police officials.
