Year on, Soumya’s family waits for justice

A year later, the family is still waiting for justice.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident but the trial is yet to begin in the session's court.

"I want the severest punishment for her killers. I hope the case is fast-tracked," said Lata Vishwanathan, Soumya mother.

This December, Soumya would have turned 27.

The case was 'cracked' in March when the police were investigating the murder of IT executive Jigeesha Ghosh (27).

Jigeesha was allegedly abducted by the same people, robbed, killed and later dumped when she was returning to her Vasant Vihar home after a late night shift.

On Wednesday, Soumya's family and friends gathered for a prayer meeting at her alma mater Carmel Convent in Chanakyapuri.

Also present to share grief were Jigeesha's parents.

"I met Soumya's parents and could feel their pain," said Savita Ghosh, Jigeesha's mother. “We hope our daughters' killers are punished.”

Nupur and Rajesh Talwar, parents of Aarushi Talwar who was found murdered in her Noida home in May 2008, also attended the meeting.

Three photographs of Soumya were placed on a table below the stage where the prayer meet was held.

People lined up to place flowers besides her photos and then made their way outside, where they lit candles for her.
