Zoo celebrates vulture day

Scores of students took oath for protection of vultures and tied 'Vulture Rakhi' to each other at the National Zoological Park as part of a programme to observe International Vultures Awareness Day today for the endangered species.

Scores of students took oath for protection of vultures and tied 'Vulture Rakhi' to each other at the National Zoological Park as part of a programme to observe International Vultures Awareness Day on Saturday for the endangered species.

The zoo conducted series of programmes including a short film on vulture awareness, poetry recitation and drawing competition on the theme of vultures for the students of Progress Public School, Lodi Road.

Vultures, an important species in the food chain, are listed in the schedule I of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act 1972, indicating that these are endangered species on the verge of extinction.
