Our country is facing multiple challenges. News channels every day carry stories of crime, corruption and apathy. We want to be a part of the solution, but don’t always know how. What we all need is a transformation in our attitude; we need to take responsibility for our own actions. Here are a few simple things that each of us should live by.

Be aware:
The first step towards becoming a responsible citizen is to know what’s going on around you. Its not just enough to know what is happening in the country. You should be aware of your immediate surroundings and understand local challenges and opportunities.

Be clued on: To become aware of whatever’s happening in the country, it’s important to follow news.

Voice your views: It’s important for you to be able to develop your views and opinions on different matters and share them openly.

Take ownership: To be a responsible citizen, you need to be responsible in your day-to-day life.

Respect rights: A progressive society can only be based on ethics and the respect for others’ rights and dignity.

No crossing the line: Every time you bunk a class, break a chair, scribble on a wall, or jump a red light, you are breaking a rule. Rules are sacroscant and cannot be tampered with.

Be socially responsible: Think of how you can make a contribution and engage in some form of social service.

Fulfil roles: Be it the role of a student, a son or a daughter, a friend or a professional; fulfil your roles and obligations with integrity.

Be an ambassador of your nation: Wherever you go, your actions are a testament to where you come from. Be proud of your heritage and speak out for your nation.
