We all procrastinate when it comes to going to the doctor and often neglect our ailments till the pain becomes unbearable. But what if we could be healed without medicines and without going to the doctor? Reiki is one such alternative healing method that claims to heal from a far.
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning ‘universal life energy.’ This life force energy can be defined as energy in all created matter. ‘Ki’ is similar in thought to Hindu ‘prana’.
Reiki is hands-on energy healing where the practitioner serves as an open channel for transmitting ‘ki’ to others. The energy is channelled through hands to the client, which activates the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
“Reiki goes to wherever it is needed most, releasing blocked energies, cleansing the body of toxins, working to create a state of balance and harmony, and promoting relaxation and healing,” said grandmaster NK Sharma.
All Reiki derives from the Usui Natural Healing System. In traditional Usui Reiki a student goes through a comprehensive learning programme to earn Reiki I, Reiki II, and then the Reiki Master degrees for many years.
In the traditional Reiki First Degree, students learn self-treatment and give hands-on treatment to others. This level generally requires two and a half days of training.
The traditional Reiki Second Degree level training is only given after a student has been practising First Degree skills for at least a year. This second level generally requires two days of training and also teaches students how to give “distance” treatments.
The Traditional Teaching Reiki Master training is only given after a student has been practising Second Degree skills for at least two years.
Depending on the level, training costs can vary from Rs 1000 to Rs 25,000.
With the emerging field of energy medicine, Reiki is enjoying increasing popularity as a form of treatment. The field is expanding and so are the opportunities. Many practitioners start their Reiki career with private practice, while others add it to their existing massage, nursing, chiropractic or acupuncture practice. Reiki centres charge anywhere between Rs 100 to Rs 500 per session.
