Shruti Jhamb, 17, jumped up in excitement and ended up breaking the chair she was sitting on when she first saw her class 12 results on Tuesday.

“I was doing a countdown of sorts since yesterday. Every few hours, I would check the time. An hour before the estimated time of result declaration, I simply logged in to the website and kept waiting. When the result came in, I just could not believe it,” said Jhamb.

Jhamb, who jointly topped the ISC examination in Delhi-NCR, said that while she was expecting a good result, securing the top rank had come as a pleasant surprise. She attributed her good performance to her discipline and consistency. “I studied well in advance and avoided last-minute hassles. I would study for 2 to 3 hours daily, and later for 8 to 10 hours as the exams approached,” said Jhamb.

A culinary enthusiast, she is passionate about cooking and baking and has often indulged in the two to divert her mind from studies. “Whenever I got stressed, I would go for a jog. Cooking also helped me to divert my attention. The support from my grandmother and mother kept me motivated throughout,” she said. Her mother, Jyoti Jhamb, said that Shruti’s focus and dedication had helped her achieve the good scores. “We were expecting a good score around 97-98%. Instead, she secured 99.7% and topped in the Delhi-NCR region. We are proud of her achievements,” said Shruti’s mother.

Jhamb hopes to pursue psychology from Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR). “My dream college is LSR and I wish to pursue psychology,” she said.
