Lucknow: Students in universities and colleges will now get lessons in the Goods and Services Tax (GST). A decision to include GST in the commerce and management curriculum was taken at the vice chancellor’s conference held on Thursday in Lucknow.

Vice chancellors of universities in the state will take a call on how they will include GST in the syllabus, deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma said while briefing the media about the conference.

To create a workforce of GST-trained professionals, it was important to add GST in the syllabus to help students understand the new tax regime.

State governor Ram Naik had convened the meeting of VCs ahead of the start of the new academic session. The state government was of the opinion that the GST would be a strong driver of growth.

Called the biggest tax reform since Independence, GST was launched at a midnight at a function inside Parliament’s Central Hall by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 1.
