IP university turns to quota chapter

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, established in 1998, is set to implement nine per cent Other Backward Castes (OBC) quota from this year.
“We have not yet received official direction from the Delhi Government. But it is learnt that the state Cabinet has approved OBC quota,” said Vice-Chancellor Dilip K. Bandyopadhyay.
“Hopefully, we will implement around nine per cent quota from this year.” Bandyopadhyay said the university’s management board would decide on the matter.
“Resources and facilities available with the university will also be evaluated before reaching any final conclusion,” he said.
Bandyopadhyay also announced admissions for its postgraduate weekend programmes and super-specialty medical courses on Thursday.
“The university has always believed in starting academic programmes according to the needs of the society and is not hesitant in removing irrelevant courses,” he said. “In order to help working professionals upgrade their qualifications and skill-sets, we are offering almost eight academic programmes on a weekend basis.”
The weekend courses include MBA (General), MBA (Consultancy Management), MBA (Banking & Insurance), MBA (Real Estate), MBA (Disaster Management), M. Tech. (IT), M. Tech. (Electronics and Communication Engineering), and a new programme Master of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Brochures for super-specialty medical courses, M. Tech. regular programmes and weekend courses can be obtained from selected branches of Punjab & Sind Bank.
