MAHE to give 77 students a Rs 5 crore scholarship

The Manipal Academy of Higher Education on Wednesday announced a scholarship of Rs five crore to benefit 77 students enrolled for various undergraduate professional courses offered by the academy.

The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) on Wednesday announced a scholarship of Rs five crore to benefit 77 students enrolled for various undergraduate professional courses offered by the academy.

The scholarship would be available for those among the top 100 in the entrance test conducted by MAHE, its Vice-Chancellor H S Ballal told newspersons in Bangalore.

He said the scholarship would be extended to post graduate courses from next year. Under the scheme, eligible meritorious students’ entire fees would be met by MAHE. MAHE Chancellor Dr Ramdas Pai said the deemed university would also arrange study loans for needy students.

Through the scholarship and fee waiver system, MAHE was encouraging students to do better academically and bring laurels to not only the institution, but also the country.

He said MAHE, with an annual turnover of Rs 315 crore, including Rs 163 crore through fees, had during the last three years spent Rs 158 crore on various capital expenditure programmes.

During the next three years, it would be spending Rs 143 crore. Besides upgrading laboratory equipment, MAHE would be constructing an indoor stadium in Manipal and a stadium in Mangalore.

Last year, it had opened a full fledged Convention Centre. Dr Pai said that from this year, all medical and engineering students in the campus would be provided a laptop, enabling them to work or study from anywhere in the WiFi-enabled campus.
