The students’ union elections at Patna University will be conducted after a gap of five years on February 17, vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh has said.

The students’ union elections at Patna University will be conducted after a gap of five years on February 17, vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh has said.

Singh said in a meeting held on Wednesday that the nomination forms will be sold from February 6 while the filing of nominations will take place on February 7 and 8 followed by a verification process on February 9.

The election will be contested for five posts of the president, vice president, general secretary, joint secretary and treasurer.

Students are already campaigning in various colleges of the university but it will begin officially on February 10 after the announcement of the budget and regulations for the polls.

Head of the history department PK Poddar will act as the chief election officer and all the principals and heads of departments as election officers. Four senior deans have been nominated as the counting officers.

There will be one polling booth for every 400 voters to avoid chaos.

There are around 20,000 voters in PU.

The highest number of voters are in Patna Women’s College with 4,291 students followed by Magadh Mahila College with 3,400 voters. BN College has 1,691 voters, Patna College 1,700, College of Commerce 781, College of Art and Crafts 350, Law College 782, Women’s Training College 291 and Patna Training College has 261 voters.
