According to the official calendar for the UPSC exams issued earlier, the last date for receipt of applications for the preliminary examination to be held on June 3, 2018 is March 6. However, these dates are tentative and can be changed if required.

Aspirants are required to go through the notification properly (after they are released) and check eligibility conditions and instructions before applying for the exam.

Candidates shall be issued an e-admission certificate before the commencement of the examination which can be downloaded from the official website.

Scheme of exam:

The Civil Services Examination is conducted in two successive stages: 1) Preliminary (objective type) for the selection of candidates for the main examination 2) Civil Services (Main) Examination (written and interview) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts announced.

There is negative marking for wrong answers by a candidate in the objective type question papers.

Candidates who pass the preliminary exam qualify for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination, which is scheduled to commence on September 28 this year.

The commission conducts the Civil Services exam every year to select officers for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
