WBCHSE West Bengal higher secondary (Class 12) exam 2017: Topper Archisman Panigrahi gets 99.2%

West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Examination (WBCHSE) Class 12 topper Archisman Panigrahi is from Hooghly Collegiate School. He scored 99.2%

The results of the plus two (Class 12) level West Bengal board exams were declared on Tuesday morning with a pass rate of 84.20%, which was higher by last year’s 0.55 percentage point .

Archisman Panigrahi from Hooghly Collegiate School who scored 99.2% topped the merit list. The first female candidate scored 96.8% and occupied the sixth position in the list.

As in the Class 10 Board exam results, candidates from the districts dominated the plus two level merit list. A total of 53 male and 13 female candidates featured in it. About 7.56 lakh students, an equal number of boys and girls, wrote the exam, said Mahua Das, president of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE).

The pass rate among male students was 85.15% while that of female candidates was 83.26%. The pass rate among Muslim candidates stood at 79.15%, which was 0.15% higher than last year.

The district with the highest pass rate was East Midnapore, with more than 90% students declared successful.

The results were declared on the 61st day after the exams that were held between March 15 and March 29 for 58 subjects.

Incidentally, the merit list of the Class 10 board exams (Madhyamik) of West Bengal, declared last week, was dominated by students from the districts. As many as 61 students out of 68 who featured in the first 10 positions of the merit list were from the districts and only seven were from Kolkata.

In 2016, a total of 7.79 lakh students wrote the exam and 6.79 lakh passed the plus two level West Bengal board exam. A total of 2.42 lakh students got first division. Swagatam Haldar, who topped the merit list, scored 99%.

Candidates will be able to view the results on the West Bengal education department’s official website, www.wbresults.nic.in.

While 10.72 lakh students appeared for the Madhyamik examination, the number of candidates in the higher secondary examination was a little over 6 lakhs.
