UP poll results: Counting in Sirathu stopped after KP Maurya's son's complaint, BJP candidate trails by over 6K votes
Uttar Pradesh assembly election results: BJP made a return in the state for the second time, with chief minister Yogi Adityanath winning from Gorakhpur (Urban) by a margin of over 73,000 votes.
Counting in the Sirathu constituency seat of Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district has been stopped after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's son Yogesh complained to poll officials. After the 29th round of counting, the minister is trailing by 6,397 votes from Apna Dal (Kameravadi) leader Pallavi Patel. Apna Dal is one of smaller parties that the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) tied up with for this year's assembly election.

Maurya has so far won 92,366 votes while Patel has bagged a total of 98,763 votes. Two more rounds of counting are left according to the information available on the website of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Earlier in the day when the counting of votes had just commenced, Maurya began trailing by 455 votes following the second round in Sirathu assembly seat.
Maurya is one of the big names in the saffron camp in the northern state. This comes as the BJP registered a runaway victory in Uttar Pradesh for the second time, with chief minister Yogi Adityanath thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the same.
“This is a mandate for development and a blessing from the people. The double engine government created a safe environment,” the chief minister added.
Adityanath who contested this year's assembly polls for the first time from stronghold Gorakhpur (Urban), emerged victorious by a margin of more than 73,000 votes. He defeated Samajwadi Party's (SP) Subhawati Upendra Dutt Shukla.
