A toast to Israel
Israeli winery is represented at the prestigious New York Wine Challenge.
Security guys frisking you is not a ticklish situation always. But it’s funny when at the entrance of the Israeli wine do, and after all the frisking, one of them asks: “Are you carrying a weapon?” It’s even funnier, when the PR person tried to make light of the situation: “He is a journalist. The pen is his weapon.” To which, missing the point completely, the bouncer was alarmed: “What?! His pen is a weapon!?”

Well, so much for the famous Israeli security. “The drill is routine,” explains Yaron Moyer, political counsellor of the Israel Embassy.
The foreword, however, is forgotten after you have had a couple of sips of the fine Israeli wines being launched as part of the Israeli Food and Wine Showcase’ at Machan, Taj Mahal hotel, on till March 24.

The diplomatic set turned up in good numbers to sample the wines. Said Nabil T Talhouni, ambassador of Jordan, “These wines are of exceptional quality.” His counterpart from the Republic of Azerbaijan Tamerlan Karayev couldn’t agree more: “It goes well with Indian curries.”
The Indian guests, which included danseuse Sonal Mansingh and Shovana Narayan, enjoyed the reds.
Israel ambassador David Danieli explained, “Our country was amongst the first one to enjoy wine, over 2,000 years before Europeans. And anyone planting a new vineyard was exempt from military service, even in national emergency.”
The Israeli Wine Industry has recently undergone a revolution. Today an Israeli winery is represented at the prestigious New York Wine Challenge and another takes part in the Decanter Fine Wine Show in London.
