I have created the Abhinav Bindra Foundation to put a formal structure to my ambitions for sports, health care and education for children. It’s time to raise awareness and get you all on board!
I want to give back to this country in some way... It has given me so much love and opportunity. It may sound idealistic, or perhaps having now achieved some of the goals I had set for myself, a touch patronising, but, I am determined to make a difference...
However, as a person who has chosen a relatively niche area of specialisation, I am a little flummoxed about how. But leaving categories aside, the broader platform shall definitely be sports in general, backed by credibility and intent.
What do I aim for? (excuse the bad pun!) Which are these very different targets that I should strive for, in order to begin this slow but hopefully, infinitely satisfying journey? I have created the Abhinav Bindra Foundation to put a formal structure to my ambitions for sports, health care and education for children. It’s time to raise awareness and get you all on board !
The problems facing us are Titanic-sized and my little effort at this point is just a message in a bottle, but I want to make that difference and am committed.
Why should poor children have no opportunity to play sports? It’s such an intrinsic part of growing up and almost a fundamental right of any child. Where does one begin when the problems are as paradoxical as malnourishment to obesity to childhood diabetes?
I need like-minded individuals who are equally committed to the idea. I come from the hermetically sealed world of shooting, but am hoping my commitment will help attract the right platforms and partners. How do I go about making a difference? Should it be just one big idea, the way Bill and Melinda Gates foundation tackles malaria? (Not even a nano comparison in terms of funding).
My belief is that our issues are more broad based, and so I have decided to help where I can. The blood donation camp I organised recently felt right and vital even though it was not a system altering measure. The Red Cross is already doing a wonderful job, but I had to begin somewhere!
I am asking all like-minded people to join me in my ambition. It can be ideas, it can be man power, it can be co-platforms or CSRs. Let’s work together towards giving our children that opportunity.
