The1-million-lawsuit against the National Enquirer and its source, Georgia music industry veteran Derrick Handspike, comes a week after the troubled performer surrendered to authorities in Los Angeles to begin serving a 55-day prison term for a driving under the influence conviction.

The 44-year-old American singer filed the case at the Manhattan Federal Court on Monday, taking issue with the March 26, 2012 story that ran six weeks after the legendary pop star was found dead, the New York Daily News reported.

He was also accused of cheating on his fiancee, Alicia Etheredge, with the doomed diva, in the story.
