Yoga guru Baba Ramdev might have arrived in Hardwar on Sunday to a hero’s welcome — but his on-stage antics in Delhi have left Bollywood ‘startled’ and ‘confused’.
Drama unfolded at the Yoga guru’s Ramlila Maidan base in Delhi on early Sunday morning after the police cracked down on his protest against corruption.
In an attempt to avoid the cops, who were forcefully removing hundreds of protesters at the venue, Ramdev jumped from the dais and melted into the crowd in a woman’s attire. He was caught hiding behind his women followers after an hour’s search. The Delhi Police has now banned him from entering the Capital for the next 15 days.
What’s with the antics?
“This agitation has now become very confusing. We haven’t seen Gandhi or Anna Hazare jumping off form the stage like this. It’s startling,” says writer-filmmaker Rumy Jafry.
“Why is he running away? Does that mean he is a culprit too? Babas like him, who stand up for people, face the beatings and don’t jump off the scene like this. He is not a social activist, he is a businessman,” adds Jafry.
Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal says, “It was odd to see the kind of people he allowed to come on the stage, unlike during Anna Hazare’s fast. Everything was played wrong.”
Director Onir asks people to get over the ‘Yoga man’. “It is extremely sad that the media and the government are listening to a Yoga man. It’s pathetic. Why is he being given importance? He is just a gimmick person.”The flip side
The police has also come under criticism for Sunday’s incident.
Music composer Vishal Dadlani tweeted, “Ramdev’s political views are notoriously nonsense-based. But, charging a peaceful crowd? What was it? Col Dyer diwas? (sic).”

Shameful state of affairs. The govt has turned Ramlila Ground into a mini-Tahrir. All on their own... Where's the need for tear gas?
In this one stupid act the government has sent the message that peaceful protests no longer work and opened the road to violence.
Whomever keep saying we are the fastest growing economy in the World should follow the Baba Ramdev episode. Reality Check!!!
A dark and sad day for India! How dare the cops tear gas and lathi charge women, children and peaceful protesters against corruption! Not DONE!

Considering our great Indian mentality more than Hazares and Ramdevs fasting we might get better results if Shah Rukh Khan, Rajnikanth, Sachin Tendlkar and Katrina Kaif fast.
This country gives everyone the right to protest! Remember?
Watching disturbing images of injured, crying women and elderly people. Violence is never a solution. What happened to our Gandhian legacy of ahimsa?
Shameful state of affairs. The government has turned Ramlila grounds into a mini-Tahrir. All on their own. The people want the government to be corruption-free. The government says it wants to be corruption-free. Where's the need for tear gas?
It is shocking to see how police and authorities have behaved with the crowds at Ramlila Maidan. It is unfair and undemocratic. Shame.
In this one stupid act the government has sent the message that peaceful protests no longer work and opened the road to violence. 50,000 Indian citizens are victims of police brutality for the crime of wanting to express their anguish at the corrupt system.
Corruption cannot be battled by the bhook hadtaals of these self-proclaimed leaders with a personal agenda. Every one cannot be Anna Hazare.
How cud the govt be so stupid? Unless they r super smart and using this to divide saffron vote between baba and bjp?
Do you support Baba Ramdev's Satyagraha? Tell us what you think.
