Adipurush box office

Adipurush was almost enjoying a solo run at the box office ever since its release on June 16. After registering a wonderful first weekend with India collection of 216 crore, the film fell on its first Monday amid severe backlash for its treatment of Ramayana and ‘modernized’ dialogues.

According to Sacnilk.com, Adipurush collected an estimated 90 lakhs on Thursday (day 14). It stands at around 291.98 crore at the domestic box office in all languages. While Adipurush went below 1 crore on Thursday, new film Satyaprem Ki Katha collected around 9 crore on day one.

Adipurush controversy leads to return of Ramayan

The criticism and controversy surrounding Adipurush has even brought back the 1987 Ramayan back to the small screen as disappointed audiences compared the film to the hit show. Ramayan will go on air once again on Shemaroo TV from July 3.

Prem Sagar on Adipurush

Prem Sagar, son of Ramayan director Ramanand Sagar, has also slammed the film. He told ANI, "Manoj Muntashir is well-informed about Hinduism. I don't understand how he even conceived such dialogues in the film. It might be a misjudgement that the younger generation would like it. But you can't do this with the audience. Don't say it is based on Valmiki Ramayan, give it any other name. Make it a fantasy film. But if you're making Ramayan then you cannot hurt the sentiments. People watch this with devotion."

"I don't even want to watch the film. Ravan was very knowledgeable and you are blackening the golden Lanka (sone ki Lanka), and his look with 5 heads up and 5 heads down," he added.
