This year has been a mixed bag for actor Annup Sonii. But at the same time, he confesses that he also had to let some opportunities go.

Actor Annup Sonii had both OTT and theatrical releases in 2021.
Actor Annup Sonii had both OTT and theatrical releases in 2021.

“I won’t say that year was great…because of the second wave a lot of projects got postponed. When we started working again, all projects started at the same time and the loss that for me was that I had to leave a couple of projects because the dates were clashing,” he says.

But Sonii is not dwelling on what didn’t happen. “Overall, it was good. I finished two web series in the last five months. Now I am also working on another one,” he adds.

Primarily working in the web space currently, the 46-year-old is grateful for the medium for helping him reintroduce himself to the audience as well as filmmakers as an actor.

“New filmmaker didn’t know I am a trained actor as my image was that I am ek crime show ka anchor. It took me a sometime to break that notion. I took initiative to make people understand that I am interested in acting projects,” he explains.

Further praising the medium, Sonii says that the web space has been great for writers, director actors like him who want to do something different.

“For me it was great because since 2018, I had decided that I would only focus on films and web projects. I think this whole phase was quite helpful. There are so many makers who are doing some great work, that really helped me,” he notes.

He feels the body of work he has created on the web is getting makers to see him in a new light. “Now they know that I am ready to try out different roles. That is a good thing that has happened to me. The word is spreading now. I keep getting good offers, some work out some don’t , but overall it has been beneficial,” he concludes.
