“When I got married, I thought it was a norm. Every morning, I would come dressed up and I would get irritated, that why do I have to dress up,” she said.

Riteish said that he would sit at the dining table wearing boxers and a T-shirt, while Genelia would be fully decked up in a salwar kameez and jewellery. “Maine socha kuch pooja-vooja hoga jo mujhe pata nahi hai (I thought maybe there is some prayer ceremony that I am unaware of),” he said.

Genelia kept it up for a month. “One day, I broke down. I said, ‘I can’t do this.’ He was confused, he was like, ‘What are you doing?’ I was like, ‘I can’t dress up like this every day.’ He said, ‘I am also wondering why you are dressing up like this every day!’” she revealed with a laugh.

Riteish and Genelia met during the making of their first film, Tujhe Meri Kasam, and have been together for more than a decade-and-a-half. They got married on February 3, 2012, and have two sons - Rahyl and Riaan.

On Riteish’s birthday on Friday, Genelia shared a heartfelt note for him on Instagram. “Dearest partner, I truly, genuinely believe for every person on this earth there will always be that one special person to love… I’m so glad for me that one will always be you,” she wrote.

You are my today, my tomorrow and my forever and no matter how many times I crib and grumble about how things should be, there’s nothing I would change about life… Happy birthday to the most amazing, selfless, incredible man ever @riteishd. May all your dreams come true,” she added, signing off as his ‘cheerleader for life’.
