Karisma Kapoor told me she saw grandfather Raj Kapoor pull women's hair: Raja Hindustani director Dharmesh Darshan

During a song shoot for Raja Hindustani, Karisma Kapoor insisted to the director that Aamir Khan pull her hair because she saw Raj Kapoor do that in real life.

Karisma Kapoor belongs to an illustrious film family that included the likes of Prithviraj Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, and her grandfather Raj Kapoor. Now, in an interview with Lehren Retro, director Dharmesh Darshan has revealed how she once told him about Raj's abusive behaviour towards women. Karisma, Aamir shooting for Raja Hindustani

Dharmesh recalled that when Karisma and Aamir Khan were filming the song Tere Ishq Mein Naachenge from his 1996 hit romantic film Raja Hindustani, there was a sequence when Aamir's drunk character is supposed to pull Karisma's hair. But Aamir suggested that he should pull Karisma by her arm instead, and Dharmesh agreed since they thought they were overstepping a line.

Karisma quotes Raj Kapoor's example

It was Karisma who insisted that Aamir pull her by her hair. “She took me to a corner. She requested we do it. She said, ‘I’ve seen my grandfather do it sometimes. Forget his films. In real life.' When she told me that, I went to Aamir and said, ‘No one take this, one take that. Just straight up pull her hair',” Dharmesh said in the interview. He said that while Aamir thinks from his head, she thinks from her heart.

Dharmesh said in the same interview that Karisma was totally game with her much-discussed, long kissing scene with Aamir in the film. She just asked the director to narrate it to her mother and former actor Babita, who was even welcomed to see the three-day shoot of that sequence.

Karisma is the daughter of actor Randhir Kapoor, who is the eldest son of legendary filmmaker and actor Raj Kapoor. Raj was married to Krishna Kapoor, and had a famous affair with co-star Nargis.

Karisma will be next seen in Brown and Murder Mubarak. Aamir will star in his home production, Sitaare Zameen Par, slated for Christmas 2024.
