Tiger Shroff misses Durand Cup debut for Mumbay FC, pulls out due to ‘last-minute work commitments’
Tiger Shroff did not take the field for Mumbay FC in their Durand Cup game in Shillong on Tuesday.
Just as he was on the cusp of making his debut in the Durand Cup, actor Tiger Shroff had to skip his team Mumbay FC's Durand Cup 2026 Group E clash against Nongkseh SS&CC in Shillong on Tuesday. Tiger pulled out at the last minute due to work commitments, the actor informed hours before the game.
Tiger Shroff misses Durand Cup game
Tiger had registered with the squad last month and was expected to play for the team in the game on Tuesday, their final league stage game in this year's Durand Cup. However, the 36-year-old actor confirmed in a video posted on X that he would not be travelling to Shillong for their clash at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
In the video, wearing the team's jersey, Tiger said, “Really, really unfortunate, but a work commitment has come up at the last moment, so I would not be able to make it to Shillong for the Durand Cup. I was really looking forward to playing for my team Mumbay FC, but unfortunately, I would not be able to make it. All the very best to everybody out there. The tournament has been amazing. All the very best Mumbay FC. Kill it, boys!”
A statement from the club shared in the caption read: “Unfortunately, due to an unavoidable last-minute work commitment, Tiger Shroff couldn’t make it to Shillong for the Durand Cup. But the show must go on, and Indian football’s next generation is here to make their mark. From the young, talented players of Minerva Academy and the Indian Football Youth team players, to the exciting young ISL talents stepping onto the biggest stage, this Durand Cup is a chance to watch the future of Indian football unfold. For us, it’s bigger than one player or one game. It’s about giving young Indian footballers the platform, belief and opportunity they deserve.”
Tiger Shroff's transition from acting to football
Son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff and film producer Ayesha Shroff, Tiger entered films in 2014 with the commercial success Heropanti. He achieved more success with films such as Baaghi, War, and Student of the Year 2 over the years. known for his action films, dancing and fitness.
The actor has stated that before his acting debut, he wanted to be a footballer and idolised Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo. In October 2024, Tiger made his professional football debut for Mumbay FC in a 1-0 win over Bombay Gymkhana in the Mumbai Premier League - the seventh tier of the Indian domestic football league system.
