Virat Kohli reacts after fan asks for pictures of his and Anushka Sharma’s daughter Vamika

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma do not want to ‘expose’ their daughter Vamika to social media before she is old enough to make that choice on her own.

Virat Kohli, during an Ask Me Anything session on Instagram, revealed the meaning of his daughter’s name. Virat and his wife, Anushka Sharma, welcomed their baby girl, Vamika, in January this year. He also responded to a request to share a picture of the little one online.

A fan asked Virat, “What is the meaning of Vamika? How is she? Can we see a glimpse of her please?” The cricketer replied, “Vamika is another name for goddess Durga. No, we have decided as a couple to not expose our child to social media before she has an understanding of what social media is and can make her own choice.”

Shortly after Vamika’s birth in January, Virat and Anushka sent personalised hampers to the paparazzi, requesting them to not click pictures of their daughter. A note from the couple read, “Hi, Thank you for all the love that you have given us for all these years. We are happy to celebrate this momentous occasion with you. As parents, we have a simple request to make to you. We want to protect the privacy of our child and we need your help and support.”

“While we will always ensure that you get all the content you need featuring us, we would request you to kindly not take or carry any content that has our child. We know that you will understand where we are coming from and we thank you for the same,” they added.

In February, Anushka shared an Instagram post, announcing Vamika’s name. She also shared a picture of herself and Virat with the little one, but her face could not be seen. “We have lived together with love , presence and gratitude as a way of life but this little one , Vamika has taken it to a whole new level ! Tears , laughter , worry , bliss - emotions that have been experienced in a span of minutes sometimes ! Sleep is elusive but our hearts are SO full. Thanking you all for your wishes , prayers and good energy,” she had written.
