What if there was a Facebook or Orkut for dogs? Unusual as it may sound, dateyourpet.co.in has set out to be just that.
“Dog dating is about making friends — male or female,” says Mekhala Lobo, the creator of the website, which she claims is the ideal platform for busy pet owners.
On Dateyourpet, membership for male dogs costs Rs 600 for six months and Rs 1,200 for a year while membership for female dogs cost Rs 450 and Rs 900 respectively.
Pet owners can register themselves on the website and create a profile, complete with pictures, descriptions, contact details and registration numbers. There is also a section where owners can write about the personality and unique habits of their pets. Once the profile is up, owners can search for a particular breed or quality of dog depending on what they are looking for in a dog-friend. The website allows owners to interact and arrange meetings according to their convenience.
As add-ons, the site also offers information about dog walkers, groomers, vets and NGOs.
Dr Neelam Singh Josan, who runs a clinic in Vasant Kunj, is listed on the website but nevertheless advises users to take such ‘dating sites’ with a pinch of salt. “It is best to go through your regular vet, who can vouch for the pedigree of a dog, rather than contact strangers on websites,” she says.
