Prabhu Deva may be five films-old as a director in the Tamil film industry, but debuting with Salman Khan in Wanted is, according to him, still a thrill. Even though he claims he is indifferent about it. “When you are a director, you don’t let that [how big a star is] get into your mind,” says Prabhu, who thinks “Salman is a cool star to work with”.

Though he has worked in only three Hindi films, it’s been with three A-listers — Kajol, Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai. “You can say it’s my luck,” he says coyly.

Talking about his choice of action as a genre, he explains, “We initially thought of a romantic-comedy, but then decided on action as Salman hasn’t done action in a long time.”

Prabhu, who picks Hrithik and Aishwarya as his favourite dancers in Bollywood, says he was devastated when he heard of Michael Jackson’s death. “He was my inspiration. Even if I tried, I couldn’t help but imitate him in the way I dance. The day I heard the news of his death, I cried,” he says.

The one thing that does irk him is the ‘North-South divide’ in the country. “This whole Southern and Northern divide is bad. It’s like a black-white divide.”
