Renowned painter MF Husain's death in London was condoled in India as the passing away of a "true genius". Celebrities express their solidarity with the artist and pay tribute to the eminent artist

Celeb speak

Sonam Kapoor expressed her sorrow at the news, "It is very sad. I have a painting of his by my bedside. It is a major loss. I hope he at least gets a burial here."

Sussane Roshan: "It is a huge loss for the world. He was an icon. He was a classic and he goes in the category of Picasso. I am so disturbed with this news. His work and creativity will live forever. I am proud to be a part of the country where he belonged.

Chitrangda Singh: Shocking news. I didn't know about this. It is a huge loss. We lost Michael Jackson and now him. He was a truly modern and liberated artist.

Javed Akhtar: "India was his identity. He may have gone away but he was an Indian at heart, his art was pure Indian at heart. Needless to say he was an inspiration to many - young and old. He inspired many young people. You can see emulation and inspiration in their work."

Nafisa Ali: "Mr Husain was a very gifted genius. It's a regret that we'll carry on our shoulders that he was not allowed to come back. The misrepresentation of his art that people were pointing fingers at should now rest in peace. We'll hopefully remember him for more than his controversies."
