Life’s suddenly moved into third gear. I’m finally auditioning for lead roles. After years of ‘hanging in there’ and taking acting and Hindi diction classes, it’s that time in my life where I can stand on a mountaintop screaming “I’m ready!”
My confidence is at an all-time high. My body and mind are in the right place- with the gym-yoga combo, and so are my nerves (with an experimental film now under my belt). I don’t know if it’s the law of attraction, or just good timing but big opportunities are finally presenting themselves to me! I whetted my appetite with a few film auditions in the last two weeks.
Location: Director’s snazzy Lokhandwala apartment
Highlight: Known director
Role: Moophat (outspoken) city girl.
The lowdown: The audition lasted all of ten minutes and was good. I’m apparently through to the next round and am one of two girls in mind for the role. Going by the director’s filmography, it’s for a proper commercial film.
Location: Yash Raj Films casting office, Juhu
Role: No clue
Dresscode: Tom-boyish hot
Trivia: The YRF casting office earlier had a warning that said, “Please do not cross the red line”. Apparently wannabe actors storm into the casting office begging for an opportunity.
The lowdown: A general intro and mini-interview into the camera. The casting director will scan the clips of those 100 girls, most probably on fast forward. Then sieve out the bad, shortlist the good, re-audition us (assuming I belong to the latter) and finally go on to sign an established actress anyway.
Banner: New, Role: Challenging.
Highlights: Much talked about co-actor, established character actors and biggie film feel. Exit popular actress (who dropped out); enter Miss K! The shoot begins soon so there’s hardly much time. This could be an opportunity of a lifetime.
The Lowdown: After an elaborate briefing, my audition was taken and lasted for three hours. I was called back the next day for the another round. Later, my manager gets a call saying they liked my audition! I cross my fingers all evening (literally), finally uncrossing them to sleep, ouch!
Location: Aram Nagar
Role: Female lead for a comedy by Sangeeth Sivan
The Lowdown: I was handed a monologue and given a quick brief. After taking my own sweet time in the changing room, I walked out confidently and nailed it! The AD said I’d be called for the next round in front of the director, where they will do a look-test with professional make up.
Hmm.. So near, yet so far!
Miss K is on Facebook! The name’s Starlet… Starlet And More.
