Eva Mendes's conspicuous absence from the Cannes Film Festival, where her boyfriend, Ryan Gosling, is promoting his directorial debut, Lost River, has set the rumour mills churning on the status of the couple's relationship.

Thirty-three-year-old Gosling was seen on the red carpet, instead, with actor Christina Hendricks, who also appears in the same movie.

Mendes and Gosling haven't been clicked together since last November.

They acted together last in The Place Beyond The Pines which was released in March last year.
