The confusion over the extension of actor Sanjay Dutt 's furlough was laid to rest after prison authorities struck down his request. Dutt returned to Yerawada prison on Saturday evening.
Dutt’s furlough had technically ended on Thursday, following which he had applied for a 14-day extension.
The actor, who had presented himself before the Yerawada prison authorities on the same day, had to return home after the state government intervened stating that the convict could stay out of jail till a decision on the extension was made.
“The plea for a further extension of the furlough has been dismissed and the same has been conveyed to him through the local police in Mumbai. We have hence asked him to surrender soon and are expecting him in by 4pm,” said Rajendra Dhamane, deputy inspector general (prisons) on Saturday afternoon. Accordingly, Dutt left from his

Mumbai residence and surrendered before the prison authorities on Saturday evening.
Dutt was released on furlough on December 24 to celebrate Christmas and New Year with his family.
Dutt had sought the extension despite the Maharashtra government asking an officer of the rank of the deputy inspector general to probe into the frequency at which Dutt was granted both parole and furlough.
Dutt is serving his sentence in the Yerawada jail in Pune in an illegal possession of arms case related to the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts.
