‘Some stick by us, some run away’
Sunny Deol on directing The Man and his next production Right ya Wrong, in conversation with Hiren Kotwani.
It’s been over a year since your last release Apne. Why such a long break?

I was organising my company, overseeing our productions. When I got involved in the scripting of
The Man
I chose to direct it myself. After
Chamku
, our next project
Right ya Wrong
is nearly complete.
Sameer Karnik of
Heroes
seems to have become a favourite with the Deols, although hisNanhe Jaisalmer
flopped.Well, Sameer is a talented and hardworking boy.
Nanhe Jaisalmer
was a wonderful film. Sometimes we have people who stick by us, some run away after a film or two.
How different is directing
The Man
vis-à-visDillagi
?During
Dillagi
, I jumped into it with a vengeance.. but now it’s a bigger responsibility.. it had better be nice.
You’re doing some hardcore action in
The Man
. I believe your mother was worried when she visited the sets. When people write about such incidents, it sounds like a gimmick. Yes, it can be risky. Being a sportsman, I’m used to doing things myself. It started with
Betaab
, when the heroes couldn’t do stunts and I was like, “What’s so difficult about that?”
After
Socha Na Tha
, your cousin Abhay doesn’t feature in any of Vijeyta’s productions.Abhay is young and he has his own way of functioning. I’m happy he’s doing well for himself. I heard
Ek Chaalis ki Last Local
was good. He showed me the promos of
Dev D
and
Oye Lucky
.. they look promising.
