Actor Pratik Gandhi feels cinema has no language

Gandhi got his big ticket to fame through Hansal Mehta’s web series, Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, and since then has been scoping up awards, as well as projects.

“(I am) not at all (going to put the regional film industry on the side). In fact, I feel that cinema has no language,” says Gandhi, who is eager to explore the diversity of Indian cinema through varied stories from different regions.

“I’m open to exploring different regional cinema also because each language has a different performance drama. I would happily do any Malayalam or Bengali film, if the script is good and I get a good challenge as an actor,” he shares.

Born and brought up in Surat, the 40-year-old began his showbiz journey through Gujarati theatre and cinema, before crossing over to the Hindi entertainment space. In fact, he says that time prepared him to handle fame, something which he experienced on a bigger scale after his portrayal of stockbroker Harshad Mehta.

“The same thing happened to me there (in Gujarati cinema), maybe on a smaller stage when Bey Yaar (2014) released, and then when Wrong Side Raju (2016) won a National Film Award,” he explains.

Now, apart from his work on the big screen, he is looking at getting back on stage, and performing.

“There are a couple of Hindi and Gujarati films in line. I am also looking forward to opening one of my plays. Theatre is where I come from and I don’t want to leave it for sure,” he shares.
