If a family or friend’s wedding is on the cards, consider it your license to go all-out in lavish ensembles, be it voluminous lehengas or dramatic drapes, and heavy jewellery to match.

Alia wore a bright anarkali in a yellow-that-yelled, which was a marvelous choice by the actor for a daytime event. (Instagram/ stylebyami)

But actor Alia Bhatt made a strong case for the need to cultivate a variety in a wedding wardrobe by way of her simple and oh-so-twirl-worthy Manish Malhotra ensemble, which she wore at her best friend Kripa Mehta’s mehendi ceremony in Jodhpur, on Saturday.

If you want to create a modern take on an anarkali, you could opt for tone-on-tone embroidery, like Alia’s outfit. (Instagram/ stylebyami)

Keeping it traditional, Alia wore a bright anarkali in a yellow-that-yelled (which was a marvelous choice by the actor for a daytime event), with matching yellow embroidery in floral motifs, with serious aplomb. Yes, her silver chandbalis and matching details on her full-length anarkali sleeves were lovely, but how refreshing it was to see Alia work a bright sunflower-toned confection from Manish Malhotra.

While her floor-length outfit was on-trend, complementing her subtle make-up perfectly, Alia further accessorised with a tiny black bindi and left her hair open with side-braids.

Ladies, if you want to create a modern take on an anarkali, you could opt for tone-on-tone embroidery, like Alia’s outfit, and even add some silver accents for a little glitz. End result? The ‘coolest girl at the wedding’ title is bound to be yours.
