Making her own mark in the world of design, interior designer Sussanne Roshan has swiftly managed to get out of her actor husband Hrithik Roshan’s starry shadow. On her recent visit to the Capital, she seemed excited about her newly launched interior design store, The Charcoal Project in Mumbai. “Our store is six months old now. The response has been overwhelming and we have acquired a clientele base from different strata, such as builders, different projects, individuals etc. Also, I am excited for the second phase that I am still working on,” says Roshan.
With a long list of Bollywood actors as her clients, including Rani Mukerji, Shilpa Shetty and Priyanka Chopra, she has many other home projects on, but remains discreet about them. Her visit to the city for a market survey brings good news for Delhiites as she plans to open her second store in the capital soon. “But it will take a little while as it’s a long process. It took me two and a half years to launch the 15000sqft Mumbai store. On similar lines, we are planning to have a big store in Delhi that will have a varied range of products,” says Roshan.
In terms of design, she sees Delhi as a big market to cater to, and feels that there is an increased awareness about interior decor — something that was absent five years back. She further adds, “I am a designer who likes to extract one appealing element from every design and put it together in an eclectic and a balanced mix. A similar style will be reflected through the store we are planning to open up in Delhi.” Her love for calming environs is reflected through her own home, which is simple and bohemian earthy with a lot of tropical elements such as wooden flooring, light coloured walls and lots of natural elements.
Giving some handy tips for creating a stylish home, she says, “When you buy or build a home, an important aspect is the source of lighting. It helps to accentuate the rest of the interiors. Second comes the architectural elements such as the ceiling height, windows, flooring, etc, which should be considered for a strong shell or foundation of a home. Then the interiors depend upon the resident’s personality and liking.” Though the mother of two has a hectic lifestyle, she takes pride in balancing her profession, family, and pressures of being a celebrity wife.
