Girls splurge on fest primping

Students’ fest budgets have more than doubled, from an average spend of Rs 1000 to Rs 2500 per student. Some are even spending as much as Rs 10,000 on fancy cosmetic treatments.

“We had three college girls who had come for laser hair removal just before their college fest,” says Dr Gaurav Dhingra of New Look cosmetic laser clinic. Dr Anup Dhir, cosmetic surgeon, Apollo hospital, says, “During this season, we get youngsters asking for treatments like micro dermabrasion, chemical peels and even botox lip fillers. These treatments cost around Rs 5,000 just for one session.”

Beauty parlours in the campus area are doling out discounts to lure youngsters. “We’re offering a 20% fest discount,” says a beautician from Mind 2 Soul Melange salon, Kamla Nagar.

Dress rental services are also reporting a rise in orders from students. “The business doubles this time,” says Neeraj Wadhera of Rent-a-party-dress. Students say they were saving up carefully. “I was putting aside money for fest shopping since months, says Vinamrata Agnihotri of Lady Shri Ram College.
