There was a heady dose of bling, expensive gems, sparkling rocks and spectacular gold jewellery along with a generous splash of Bollywood divas at the India International Jewellery Week that took off in Mumbai on Sunday at the Grand Hyatt hotel. While actor and brand ambassador Sonam Kapoor sported resplendent pearl ornaments as she inaugurated the event, minister for tourism, Subodh Kant Sahay, was also present with his daughter.
On day one, at the Gitanjali show, precious jewels shared the limelight with Bollywood divas such as Bipasha Basu, Soha Ali Khan and Riya Sen. The emphasis was on traditional designs set in a contemporary pattern.
Jewellery designer Monica Kapur’s creations were classic and elegant. Actor Kangana Ranaut was seen sporting tribal jewellery in heavy gold at the Amprapali show — a trend that won praises from the audience. Gehna jewellers showed some brilliant cuffs in their collection and Sangam chains had gold chains and bubble bangles on display. The Tanishq show also saw beautiful, wearable and functional jewellery.
