Shilpa Shetty epitomises the brand perfectly, says Amit Aggarwal as he debuts at ICW 2018
Fashion designer Amit Aggarwal made his debut at India Couture Week 2018. Actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra was the showstopper. Aggarwal speaks about his new collection, the edgy dress worn by Shetty Kundra and why she is his muse.
Amit Aggarwal could not have asked for a more perfect face for his big, brilliant debut at India Couture Week 2018. The fashion designer was all praises for actor and fitness guru Shilpa Shetty Kundra, who set the ramp on fire once again as a charming showstopper to his show.

Day 3 of the ICW, presented by Hindustan Times and Sunil Sethi Design Alliance, kicked off with Amit’s stunning new collection, titled Crystalis. “Crystalis is derived from a combination of two words — crystal and chrysalis,” Amit said in an interview to HT, as he revealed the inspiration behind the title. “I am really inspired by the architectural formation of a crystal and also the formation of a chrysalis around a butterfly,” he said.

Amit showed off gorgeous pleats, metallic details and structured fabrics in surprising colours like emerald green, smokey silver and a shiny plum. “If you see the overall palette, we have kept it really light,” he said about his choice of colours. “I think the modern Indian woman wants a variety of colours in her wardrobe and I think it was time someone experimented with different colours,” he added.
And experiment he did. Amit draped Shilpa in a quirky, edgy dress inspired by the traditional saree. The gorgeous plum outfit complemented Shilpa and her beautiful complexion perfectly. “I think a muse is a person who has cultivated a brand. Shilpa has worn us multiple times and some of the most striking outfits from our collections over the years. Since it was my debut, it was really the right time to go to someone who epitomises the brand perfectly and there could not have been anyone better than Shilpa,” he said about her.

Amit calls Shilpa his muse and is confident that she can turn any of his outfits into pieces of art. “A muse is someone who can look great in every single outfit and I think Shilpa really would bring any outfit to life,” he said.
And to what occasion does he believe women will wear his outfits to? “When I actually designed the collection, I thought it would really range from wearing it to a wedding reception — either your own or someone else’s— or to wearing it to your own wedding,” he said.
So maybe at a wedding like Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’? “Yes I am very excited and I congratulate both of them,” he said, hoping to see Shilpa wear one of his outfits to the imminent wedding.
