Thanks to Bollywood divas’ newfound love for the six-yard wonder, the sari is on its way to resurgence. The recent past has seen gorgeous film stars turn out in designer chiffon saris, traditional Kanjivarams and Jaamdanis at Shilpa Shetty’s wedding reception.

Sari, undoubtedly the most beautiful attire for women. It has lured even the big-ticket designers of the West such as Christian Dior and the present-day geniuses such as John Galliano and Jean Paul Gaultier.

A six-yard of fabric, which when draped turns out to be the most sensual of attires, was an enigma for the Westerners but back home, the sari was slowly fading away. If there was a significant presence of it, it was in southern and eastern India. North and the west got lost in the salwar-kameezs, frocks and pantsuits.

You may argue that a woman sari at a wedding reception is a common thing (though it wasn’t a year ago), but when we saw the Bollwyood hotties dolled up in saris at the police show, the PETA Awards and in the Couture Week in the six-yard wonder, we cannot deny that sari is the newfound love of the glamour brigade.

This sure will have a trickledown effect and we hope to see many more stylistas draped in saris. It will indeed be a treat to the eyes to see gorgeous women in gorgeous saris. Are the designers listening?
