Not afraid of monsoon raining on their parade, celebrities pick up school reminiscent white sneakers and style them in their own unique way.

Remember the white sports shoes you wore to school when you had to battle it out during PT classes? Well, let’s just say, that trend is back, with an adult twist of course. Many Bollywood celebrities including Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza are taking on the trend, and wearing white sneakers as they travel, or get out for a film promotion. We wondered, what’s making the trend so popular even in the tricky monsoon season. Designer Nikhil Mehra says, “Social media has helped in boosting this trend, with celebs flaunting their picks and their styling on a daily basis online. Also, after sneakers became a part of haute couture, with international design biggies putting them on the runway, the demand for them just increased. This trend is certainly beyond seasons, be it summer, winter or monsoon, so, stylistas will be sporting them perennially,”

For designer Troy Costa, it’s the classic appeal of these sneakers that make all the difference. “While fashion keeps changing, white kicks have found their place in the both men and women’s closets across style seasons. Since they are a classic pick, you can rarely go wrong with a pair. Wear them with a dress or even a tuxedo and you are anyway going to make a statement. Perhaps this is why celebrities are still rocking this style,” he says.

“While wearing all-white sneakers in monsoon can be a little daunting because your white won’t remain white once you step out of the house, they still remain a popular choice, perhaps because of the varied ways in which they can be styled. I really like the versatility of white sneakers as they look good with everything from denims to dresses. This trend can never be tagged as ‘last season’,” says stylist Vikram Seth.
