Sonam Kapoor trolled for wearing mangalsutra as bracelet à la Shilpa Shetty

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s choice to wear her mangalsutra around her wrist has left some social media users underwhelmed by her styling choice. While netizens might not be so into this unusual style of ‘mangalsutra’, another actor, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, has been wearing her mangalsutra as a bracelet, for years.

Actor Sonam Kapoor Ahuja wearing her mangalsutra as a bracelet is dividing social media. While many find her choice “beautiful” and “stylish”, a number of her fans are less than impressed, criticising her for “disrespecting” Indian culture.

Interestingly, Sonam’s mangalsutra was designed by the actor herself, and she picked out an unusual and meaningful detail to make it special. The Veere Di Wedding actor got fine jewellery designer, Usheeta Rawtani, to create a mangalsutra with symbols of the couple’s zodiac signs — hers being Gemini and her husband Anand Ahuja’s Leo -- with a single solitaire in the centre.

Now, critics of the actor, who married her long-time boyfriend Anand Ahuja on May 8, are taking to Instagram and Twitter to vent their feelings.
