Horizontal, vertical and diagonal —stripes are gliding closer to the fashion trend line from every axis. Never been out of vogue, the stripes are resurfacing on the outfits of trend-setters in Hollywood and Bollywood, becoming the hottest trend to follow. “Nautical stripes in dresses and tops are in vogue.
Stripes is a very simple trend, recently Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kalki Koechlin and Pippa Middleton were spotted carrying off strips with ease. You don’t have to do too much — keep your hair loose, no extra accessories required, and you look appealing,” says designer Urvashi Kaur.
Stripes look simple, but they come with a set of dressing rules. The most significant rule is to play around with the stripes pattern according to your body type. “There are few things to keep in mind before slipping into a striped outfit. First, thin vertical stripes are for those who are short in height and a bit on the heavier side. These stripes give an illusion of being tall and make you look slimmer.
Secondly, if you are short in height, never wear horizontal stripes as it will make you look bulky. Also, don’t accessorise too much. A chunky neck piece or a scarf is enough to complete the look,” suggests designer Anjalee Kapoor.
Get the stripes right
Stripes can add volume to your figure. So if you want to enhance your top half, then add a horizontal striped T-shirt or top. Pair it with something in solid colour, such as red or blue.
Stripes in diagonal form are very stylish. You can flaunt your toned shoulders in a toga dress, accessorised with hoop earrings.
If you’re fond of wearing oversized striped T-shirt dress, then you can combine the look with tights and flat ballerinas.
